An Arduino workshop - every Thursday / 14:00 / HfK room 1-12-060 / Kristian Gohlke (see the course description below) ...after a quick sneak preview today, the course will officially start on thursday, November 20th Let's get physical! - senses, sensors, actuators Learn how to use microcontrollers and electronics for your (interactive) projects. The main focus of this tutorial will be on practical work using a broad selection of different sensors and actuators to sense and interact with the real world. We will work with the arduino microcontroller platform. Basic concepts of electronics will be covered whenever necessary. The arduino can be used to build standalone applications such as simple robots, midi-controllers, remote controls, etc... or to connect all kinds of sensors to your computer, leaving the constraints of mouse and keyboard behind. The knowledge you will gain might serve as a starting point to design and build your own electronic prototypes or interactive installations. The class is meant to be an open forum for everyone interested in Physical Computing. Your ideas for electronic projects of any kind are highly welcome! "Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. - http://www.arduino.cc/" Check this for more details: http://www.arduino.cc/ http://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/HomePage http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Projects/ArduinoUsers http://www.tinker.it/en/uploads/v3_arduino_small.pdf http://www.tigoe.net/pcomp/code/understanding-electricity The tutorial is for absolute beginners and people with some background in electronics/microcontrollers/programming alike. Beginners will get a proper introduction to the matter, while advanced students are encouraged to work on their own specific projects. Programming skills can be helpful, but are not required as the arduino language is rather easy to learn and I will provide guidance whenever necessary.
